Get to Know -- Camille Smith

Our Diamond of the Week

Hometown: Mountain Brook, AL
Major: Pre-Occupational Therapy
Pledge Class '14

I have adored Camille since I met her on Skit Day when she was coming through Recruitment. Her joy is everlasting and her ability to love people is unmatched. The number of adventures that we have had together have been some of my favorite memories, and she is a friend that absolutely cannot be replaced.

1. What was your dream job as a child?

I wish I could say something normal like a doctor or a teacher, but in the spirit of honesty, in Camille's perfect world as an 8 year old, I would've told you that my dream job would have been to be a pilgrim. I'm talking straight up Little House on the Prairie style here. You can thank the third grade "Pioneer Days" portion of our school's curriculum for sparking the idea. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a huge demand for pilgrims in 2017, so OT seemed like the next best thing.

2. If you could bring one fictional character to life, who would it be and why?

Oh that's an easy one! Lucy Pevensie. (for those of you who have yet to begin living and haven't heard, she's one of the main characters in CS Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia series) . The girl has a faith that remains steadfast and unfaltering when life doesn't exactly line up with what she may have envisioned and she refuses to let her age be a determinant of what she can and can't do. If I can be half of the girl she represents, I'll be a-okay with that.

3. If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I am pretty sure that this is every college student dream. If my Mom is asking, my answer is studying. Always studying. But all school aside, I'd spend a whole lot more time with people. Preferably sitting on a porch somewhere. I'll take as much time with my people that I can get!

4. Besides for ADPi, what have you been involved with on Auburn’s campus that you have enjoyed the most so far?

I have had the privilege of being a YoungLife leader here in Auburn for the past 3 years and that has without a doubt been the involvement that has brought with it the most joy. What began as entering into a ministry where I thought I was going to be the one doing the teaching, only took about one day for me to realize that I had much more to learn from these high schoolers than I could ever hope to teach them. For these girls to allow me to take part in their lives is something that I hope to never take for granted.

5. What are some small things that can make any day better for you?

Biiig fan of sunrises, clothes fresh out of the dryer, MAIL, new music Monday on Spotify, and all my roommates being home at the same time (a hard feat to accomplish living with 5 angel humans). Puppies don't hurt either.
